about-photo-diana.pngFive Star Day Cafe opened in January, 1998, across the street from the historic north campus of the University of Georgia. An authentic regional southern cooking cafe at the corner of Broad St. and College Ave., gateway to famed Downtown Music and Art., Five Star Day instantly became a part of the fabric of both the hungry student and the in-town residents, looking for a place to eat that reflected everyone's common longing for homemade southern comfort food in a modern chic setting.

Foods just like your Grandma would make, or your Mom would call, "Company Supper"- you know, the kind that shows somebody went to trouble - served up in a hip college setting with friendly locals mixing classic R&B with progressive bands on the speakers.

Our influences come from all over the South, and have drawn cooks from all over who love being creative, and sharing their own family dishes through our daily specials. Oftentimes, these are the dishes where you taste the extra love, and get to know the stories behind the dishes. Our menu has grown through these 15 years, as we have, too, and continue to strive be the place to get all your favorite classics served up for a great value.

Our kitchen is real, and so are the people in it. You'll see Diana Fairbairn, a founding owner, alongside current owner Mike Caplinger, keeping the 5star running 7 days a week for 3 meals a day by enjoying what we do. General Manager Weston Simonton keeps us on track with our catering, and Kitchen Manager Nathan Doak keeps up with our kitchen, the heart of our restaurant.

Because at 5star, every day is a special occasion.

From the start, Five Star made a name for itself by serving up authentic southern comfort food, made from scratch every day, every meal, every delicious morsel. We love what we do, and you can taste it in everything you eat. From Sunshine Biscuits and True Grits in the mornings, to Fried GreenTomatoes , BBQ, Meatloaf and Collard Greens, you just can't get this kind of real food, this good, for this great a value, anyplace else.

Come and get your LOVE!
